about

Consider the feeling of being one single self existing in one place at one moment in time. How is this self produced? How is this self distinct from identity? What forces (linguistic, machinic, phenomenological) produce subjective self? How do conscious, singular subjective minds determine themselves with autonomy and emancipation? How might subjectivity be inhuman? How might it be collective?

This project samples aesthetic material (sounds, images, 3D forms) to derive new material that is non-referential, sensitive, and multi-dimensional. It aims to be available to be resampled by others. To expand those possibilities, the release includes not only the flattened audio and video, but also stems, source materials, files, and custom software, all of which can be found at seven-spaces.net.

"I grasp myself...as a thought engaged with certain objects, as a thought in act; and it is in this sense that I am certain of myself.”
- Maurice Merleau-Ponty

"This is the horizon of the next alternative: either a new form of ultimate neuro-totalitarianism, or a new form of trans-human Humanism. Will the general intellect be subjugated by the automatic machine, connecting individual operational brains deprived of any freedom and singularity? Or will the conscious conjugation of sensible and sensitive singularities be able to self-organize, and find pathways of sympathy, sharing and collaboration?"
- Franco Berardi

"The only acceptable finality of human activity is the production of a subjectivity that is auto-enriching its relation to the world in a continuous fashion. The productive apparatuses of subjectivity can exist at the level of megapoles as easily as at the level of an individual’s language games. And to learn the intimate workings of this production, these ruptures of meaning that are auto-foundational of existence — poetry today might have more to teach us than economic science, the human sciences and psychoanalysis combined."
- Felix Guattari
